Guiding Principles for Public Statements
These guiding principles help NACAC leaders determine when it is appropriate to make a public statement on breaking news events, disasters, policies, and/or high-profile situations. The intention is to help NACAC align the use of public statements with the organization’s purpose.
Guiding principles:
- A public statement on the issue advances or supports NACAC’s mission and vision.
- Mission: Empowering college admission counseling professionals through education, advocacy, and community.
- Vision: The transformative power of postsecondary education is accessible to all.
- NACAC can influence the issue and move toward a solution through work it is doing or will do.
- NACAC has a clear position, specific solution, or perspective on the topic.
- If applicable, a public statement on the issue advances or supports board-approved priorities.
If there is an issue under consideration that does not fit within these guiding principles, NACAC will monitor the situation and consider other forms of outreach or information sharing as needed.
