This certificate program focuses on the use of data analysis to achieve recruitment objectives. Participants of this course will use an applied approach to better understand the role of the admission office in meeting institutional objectives, build skills to leverage institutional data, and achieve new student enrollment goals.

The basics:

  • Intended audience: Professionals working in colleges or universities who are responsible for managing a region or territory; supervisors who aspire to build a data-informed culture among their staff.
  • Format: Hybrid.
    • This course includes two virtual live sessions held via Zoom, two in-depth video modules, and a variety of activities and assignments where learners can apply what they have learned.
  • Cost: $225 for NACAC members, $400 for nonmembers.
    • A 20 percent discount is available for offices of four or more participants registering for the same course.
  • Estimated completion time: 5 weeks (approximately 2-3 hours per week).
    • Participants have six months to access and complete the course in NACAC Learn.
  • Upon completion: A completion certificate and a digital badge.

Course description:

This course focuses on the use of data analysis to achieve recruitment objectives. Participants will use an applied approach to better understand the role of the admission office in meeting institutional missions and financial objectives, and how to measure current admission funnel performance. Concepts covered will be applicable to all CRM platforms. 

The basic data analysis tactics taught in this course are ones that can be applied to several different functions and used at various stages in an admission career. For supervisors, this course is an opportunity to reinforce a data-informed culture within their staff, build skills to leverage institutional data, and achieve new student enrollment goals. 

Participants will complete short, topic-based modules on their own schedule and will gather on Zoom on two separate occasions to meet with classmates and the program director, David Burge. The live component of this class offers participants an opportunity to expand their professional networks.  

Course topics:

  • Interpret recruitment data and enrollment funnel metrics
  • Utilize outside sources of data to reveal market insights.
  • Apply data storytelling best practices
  • Unlock good decision-making throughout the recruitment cycle by establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Program Director

David Burge
Vice President for Enrollment Management

George Mason University

David Burge has served as Vice President for Enrollment Management at George Mason University since July 2015. Before coming to Mason, he served as Executive Director of Admission Services at Arizona State University and oversaw the execution of new student enrollment strategy for undergraduate and graduate, domestic and international students. Other professional experience includes the University of Kansas and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, holding senior leadership roles within each institution’s Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

David served as president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) in 2017-18 and as President of the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling (GPACAC) in 2007-08. For six years, Mr. Burge was the faculty lead of the Admissions Middle Management Institute – a longstanding NACAC pre-conference workshop.

A native Kansan, his academic background includes two degrees from the University of Kansas: an undergraduate degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership.
