Event engages future college admission leaders

Inaugural Next Gen event focuses on engaging future leaders in college admission

Atlanta, GA (March 21, 2023) – At an inaugural event hosted by NACAC and Georgia Tech, college admission professionals gathered for a day of learning and connecting. Through presentations, panel discussions, and networking, participants were invited to help build the strategy and community for a bright future in the college admission profession.

Cultivating the Next Generation in College Admission was held on the campus of Georgia Tech on March 21. The event featured presentations from leaders in college admission who shared their experiences in building their careers.

Member input from multiple sources helped shape this event. These included:

Recommendations from the Ad Hoc Committee on Serving Next-Generation College Counseling and Admission professionals
Results from the NACAC Member Needs Assessment

This event offered an opportunity for admission officers exhibiting at the NACAC National College Fair in Atlanta and other professionals in the area to spend dedicated time considering their potential as leaders in college admission.

“The future of college access and global student mobility depends on a strong higher education and admissions workforce,” said NACAC CEO Angel B. Pérez. “NACAC is determined to cultivate, retain, and inspire the next generation of professionals who will lead us into the future and create greater pathways for students.”

The event began with a lunch and welcome remarks from Rick Clark, Georgia Institute of Technology Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions. The featured speaker was Ingrid Hayes, Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management at Spelman College. NACAC CEO Angel B. Pérez moderated a panel of college admission professionals:

Andrew Cohen, Associate Director for Guest Experience, Undergraduate Admission Georgia Institute of Technology
Nayati Shuler, Assistant Director of Admissions, Spelman College
Miya Walker, Director of Admission, Agnes Scott College

The event closed out with a group discussion on the future of work for the next generation of admission professionals and networking.

The intention from NACAC is to build on this event and continue to support the growth of early-career professionals as they consider how they can grow as leaders in college admission.
